A superb example of a Damascene brass studded cedar chest c1850. Damascus was a centre for making such things and they were commonly bought by sailors at various ports in the Near East and so can end up in the most unlikely of places....Scotland...Cornwall. This is a fabulous example in great condition with all its studding intact and great colour. Inside are two small fitted compartments and there is arabic text inscribed along the edge which could well be the name of the owner. Ideal for use as a coffee table or at the foot of a bed or as a very stylish toy box.
